MIGDAL
++++++
The modern town of Migdal is the traditional site of Magdala, the town of Mary Magdalene, a follower of Jesus. The name Magdala comes from the word for “tower” and probably referred to towers used for drying fish caught in the Sea of Galilee. Magdala was also known by its Greek name, Taricheae.
The Roman-era ruins at Migdal are administrated by the Catholic Church and not open to the publich, but visible through a wrought-iron fence. The ruins include a synagogue and Byzantine church with a mosaic of a fishing boat and ancient perfume vials, perhaps similar to the perfume vial used to annount the feet of Jesus in Luke 7:38.
